Education is the number one way to prevent sex trafficking. Even though sex trafficking is such a common issue around the world, many people are still not aware of it. By educating communities that are especially susceptible to being targets, the members of the community can learn what some of the warning signs are along with what to do if you find yourself in a position of being trafficked. Not only can the young girls be educated, but their families can too. Prevention starts at home. The average entry into sex trafficking is between 11-14 years of age. Around the world, there is a growing epidemic of absent parents. By leaving children unprotected, they are at great risk of being sexually abused by neighbors or even family members. In fact, the leading risk factor for entry into the sex industry is a history of childhood sexual abuse. The solutions can easily be applied; however, without knowledge about the problem, the communities will not know how to prevent this global issue.
