Due to men abusing their power over women, sex trafficking is a major issue that not only impacts the victim but also impacts the community. Sex trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery which occurs across the globe. Young women get sold into a cycle of abuse and pain where they are not only raped multiple times a day, but they also live in terrible conditions. Most girls get pregnant multiple times and are either forced to have illegal abortions or have no choice but to take care of their kids while trafficked. In September 2017, the International Labor Organization estimated that 24.9 million people were victims of human trafficking around the globe. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's 2016 Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, 54% of all trafficking victims in 2014 were trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation. For those who are fortunate enough to escape, their adversities are still far from over. Due to the negative stigma surrounding the issue in many countries, many victims are often not given any help from their families or their community after escaping. This is where activist groups work to help reenter the victims back into society. Unfortunately, the issue is not commonly addressed, so people are not aware of the severity of the issue.
