India:

India is one of the many homes to sex trafficking. Although it is illegal, it still remains a major issue. Certain communities in India are more vulnerable than others, Traffickers tend to target certain communities depending on specific traits. Vulnerability factors such as poverty make a community appear to be easier to target. In India, sexism is extremely common. From a young age, women are told that they need to marry a man and have kids. As a result, men have more power compared to women. Some of these men then abuse this power to get women to trust them. With this trust, they are able to lure the women into a life of being sexually exploited. These traffickers will seek to capitalize on this market by manipulating and luring victims. This is often done with the traffickers building a relationship with a victim in efforts to understand their desires and vulnerabilities. Along with this, they often foster emotional attachment. Then, they use this information and trust to manipulate the victim and isolate them from their family through force or intimidation in order to gain control of the victim. Men abuse their abundance of power to trick the women into thinking that they need them.

America:

Despite having a generally stable economy, a similar situation that happens in India occurs in America. Although it remains an unnoticed issue, sex trafficking in America is extremely common. In America, it is a social standard to get married with pressure from the community to satisfy this standard. Because of this, men are given more power which some choose to abuse. They can trick women with fake promises. Then they sell the women into a life of slavery. The abuse of power by men make the target appear more vulnerable. Unfortunately, the public does not realize the prevalence of the issue due to the media portraying it as only being present in third world countries.
